The purpose of Christian Science is simply the correction...

Birmingham (Ala.) Age-Herald

The purpose of Christian Science is simply the correction of all kinds of error, no matter how time worn or how new to the present sense of the individual and of the human race in general this error may be. That it has healed both sickness and sin in very many instances is now generally admitted: also it is admitted that those who are faithfully following its teachings, obedient to its rules, are men and women of clean and joyous lives. How is this purpose accomplished? It is not by the influence of one human mind over another, the injection, so to speak, of human beliefs, opinions, or impulses into the conscious or unconscious, willing or unwilling personality. The influence of the human mind is avoided. It is the looking to God the only creative Principle of all that exists, as the infinite Mind or Spirit, wisely and lovingly enforcing obedience to spiritual law, in the realization of whose presence all the discords of human error must cease. "Be still, and know that I am God," is the key note of Christian Science practice. To confuse this process of invoking the power of that always-nigh presence with hypnosis, the process of inducing the hypnotic state, is merely to misunderstand the actual facts. The confusion, however, between the action of the human mind, sometimes good and sometimes bad. and the action of the divine Mind, which must of necessity be harmonious, — this confusion will eventually disappear.
