Having received so much benefit form reading the testimonies published in the periodicals, I very much desire to offer mine in return, hoping that it may be of some interest to others. During the summer of 1891 I heard of Christian Science for the first time, and like so many others I had nothing but sarcastic criticism for what seemed to me to be a senseless fad, contrary to reason and intelligence. Shortly after this I experienced a very severe attack of illness, accompanied with all the symptoms of a dreaded fever. I suffered intensely for some time, and as I was growing worse under material remedies, my mother suggested Christian Science, stating that it could do me no harm, that she herself had received help and was even then being treated for an old complaint of thirty years' standing; so to please her I consented, and was completely relieved of my trouble in one present and one absent treatment. The help received at this time, and subsequently for myself and family, inspired within me a blind faith, as it were, that has led me into some realization of the power of omnipresent Love.

The spiritual awakening came about four years ago, when our oldest son, then fourteen years of age, was, as it seemed to me, literally raised from the dead. He was just recovering from an illness, when he had a relapse that soon developed into a very severe case of lung trouble. Relatives and friends were very much wrought up over what they considered neglect on my part in not calling a physician at once, some well-meaning neighbors going so far as to counsel taking matters into their own hands. Realizing that if relief was to be had it must come quickly in this crucial test,—the most trying ordeal of my experience,—the light of divine Truth dawned, dispelling all doubt and fear. A Christian Science practitioner was called at once, and in less time than it has taken me to write this testimony all pain had ceased and our loved one was sleeping in peace; but he was so weak that he could not raise his arm or turn over in bed, and it required the faithful services of the practitioner for some time in order to overcome completely the effects of the disease that had seemingly wasted the body and affected the lungs. It was said by many that the boy would never be strong again, but in three months' time he was a picture of health and strength, and has been so ever since. Not a vestige or sign of this critical experience remains, and the memory of it is illumed by the search-light of Truth, revealed to us through the study and practice of Christian Science as taught by Mrs. Eddy. For fifteen years we have used no drugs or other material remedies in our family of seven; two children have been born to us with Christian Science treatment at the time of birth and without the aid of materia medica.

Words but faintly express my gratitude to God for revealing to suffering humanity in this age the truth that teaches us to know Life, health, and happiness. My heart goes out in gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for showing us the way. I am also very grateful for having been so patiently and lovingly helped, with those dear to me, on our way, when clouds of doubt and fear seemed to retard our progress. My great desire is to know more and more of Christ, Truth.
