With a deep feeling of gratitude and love to God, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I make this attempt to express what Christian Science has done for me. About seven years ago I suffered greatly from rheumatic trouble and a weak heart, the latter trouble being very severe at times. My parents, who were interested in Christian Science, made arrangements for me to receive treatment. I had very little or no faith in this Science of Being, not then understanding the nature and power of metaphysics, but I was healed through Christian Science, and I know now that it was the truth that made me free. Not comprehending the Principle of the cure at that time, I did not, however, give to God the honor due Him. Instead of pursuing this truth and learning more of it, I drifted away from it, on the dark sea of error, until I was again a dweller in the outer darkness of mortal belief.

A year and a half ago I again found myself ailing from one of my former complaints, accompanied by female troubles and sore eyes. All these ailments taken together made me feel very miserable, to mortal sense. It was at this time that I became interested in Christian Science and again turned to it for help. I took treatment, bought a copy of Science and Health, and began to study it. After a month's treatment I took the case into my own hands, as the demand of Life and Love is that we "work out" our own salvation. The way was rugged and steep, and hard beset with temptations, but still I struggled on and waited to receive according to my deserving, and my reward has indeed been great. More and more of this splendid truth revealed itself to me, and from day to day I received the better understanding that Science gives of the supreme Being, or divine Principle,—Life, Truth, Love. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life," and Mrs. Eddy says, "When we wake to the Truth of being, all disease, pain, weakness, weariness, sorrow, sin, death, will be unknown, and the mortal dream will forever cease" (Science and Health, p. 218).

Not only was I healed physically, but morally as well. I used to indulge a great deal of enmity, selfishness, hatred, revenge, but all these evils have been met by divine Love,—the ever-present help in time of trouble. I also used to yield to a great deal of fear. The Scriptures read: "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear. . . . He that feareth is not made perfect in love." "God is love; and he that dwelleth in love, dwelleth in God, and God in him." I learned in Science that we must always try to love our enemies, even as we love our friends, and we must daily "watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus" (Science and Health, p. 497). We may not achieve all in a short time, but we must wait patiently for Spirit to perfect His work.
