SHOW ME THY FACE

No man shall look upon my face and live.—Genesis.

Moses saw God, a warrior King pass by,
Trembling with awe he watched those fingers trace
The stern commandments to the chosen race,
While crashing thunders rolled their threats on high
And flaming tongues forked from a livid sky.
The mighty Yawah of Hidden Face
Filled with His terrors all the awful place,
That smoking mount which whoso touched must die.
But one who walked a little while below,
Whose words, though earth and heaven pass, shall stand,
Through whose pure eyes the Father smiled,
Said, 'Tis eternal life thy God to know.
Thus in our greater light we seek God's hand,
And pray, "Look on Thy child, look on Thy child!"
