ITEMS OF INTEREST

The joint Champlain Tercentenary Commission of New York and Vermont have authorized Governor Hughes of the New York State Commission and Governor Proctor of the Vermont Commission to each appoint a sub-committee to act jointly as an executive committee to take charge of the arrangements for the celebration which will be held, beginning July 4, 1909, to commemorate the discovery of Lake Champlain by the man whose name it bears. Steps will be taken to have the State Department at Washington try to interest the officials of France and Canada in the celebration.

The fourth International Congress of Religious Liberals will be held in Boston from Sept, 22 to 27. The council was organized there on May 25, 1890, under the auspices of the American Unitarian Association, and meetings have been held in London, Amsterdam, and Geneva. The purpose of the council is to open communication with those in all lands who are striving to unite pure religion and perfect liberty, and to increase fellowship and co-operation among them.

The Secretary of the Treasury of the United States hopes to secure for the Government the present Jamestown Exposition site, together with the best of the permanent buildings, in lieu of the million dollars which the Exposition owes the Government, or whatever of it remains unpaid, and establish there a training school for cadets in the revenue cutter service.
