I desire to express my gratitude to Almighty God for...
I desire to express my gratitude to Almighty God for the joy and true happiness that have come into my life since taking up the study of Christian Science and living in the fear of God. I am daily receiving the help of never-failing divine Love. For many years I was a great sufferer from the dreadful pains resulting from paralytic trouble, pronounced incurable by all medical experts. After exhausting every known remedy that money could secure, I was induced to take up the study of Christian Science, which is daily proving very beneficial, and my condition is improving both spiritually and physically. I am most happy to be thus able to state that Christian Science has given to me a new life, and for this saving religion, which Christ Jesus the Wayshower exemplified when on earth, I most truly thank God.
The supposed cause of my trouble was two very serious falls, one of thirty-five or forty feet, from the roof of a building, and the other down an elevator shaft. In 1896 I was reduced in weight to ninety-four pounds. I could not sleep, and the physicians' verdict was that I could not live twenty-four hours. From 1893 to 1900 I had four operations performed. In my experience with the medical profession one doctor's careless use of a hypodermic needle resulted in a most serious injury to the knee joint, from which I suffered the most excruciating pain for several years. This knee is now almost normal in size and is nearly straight.
In October, 1905, I got a copy of Science and Health, began its study, and received benefit, losing the appetite for tobacco right away. I used to drink beer every day, but I am no longer a slave to appetite. I eat sparingly with a good relish, and very little satisfies me. My sleep is sound and refreshing, and every day brings a revelation of God's blessing, for which I am indeed grateful.
