As I look back over the past I see a wonderful change...
As I look back over the past I see a wonderful change in my ways of thinking and living, and this change of thought—this better way of living—has been revealed to me by the understanding obtained from the study of Christian Science. I had been seeking help through many material remedies, but as all had failed I had become a physical wreck, and mentally the most miserable of mankind. For a number of years I had been under the care of physicians at different times, when it was decided that it would be necessary for me to undergo an operation. I did so, but my physical condition did not improve, and I became very much discouraged, as I could see nothing before me but an endless sea of doubt and fear, and in the midnight of despair the last star of hope had vanished. In looking to a God supposed to send both good and evil, I found no comfort. I had been educated to believe it was God's will that we should suffer, and though I did not question the wisdom of God I did wonder how a just God could bring so much suffering into the world, as I had seen little else. I had been advised to try Christian Science treatment, but I did not think it could help me. As all material means had failed me, as a last resort I finally concluded that I would see a practitioner. With the physical healing came the spiritual uplifting, and what a wonderful revelation of the truth! indeed, it was this truth that made me free. The chain of physical bondage was broken, and discouragement vanished, together with the belief of an unmerciful God, and for the first time I looked to a God who is Love.
It is now nearly two years since I began to study and depend on Christian Science, and I have found that this truth can and does meet all our needs. I know that all error must vanish as I journey on from sense to Soul; there is no mistake that Christian Science is the way our Master trod, for it gives the signs that Jesus said should follow them that believe. What a privilege it is to live in this age, and I thank God for His faithful messenger, Mrs. Eddy, who so patiently is leading us back to Christ. Truth. It is my desire to follow her as she follows Christ.
