While visiting my daughter in Mitchell, S. D., in September,...
While visiting my daughter in Mitchell, S. D., in September, 1906, I went down to Hurley to attend a lecture on Christian Science. While getting ready to go to the hall where the lecture was to be delivered, I stepped off the lower stair, landing in such a way as to catch my heel, throwing me down with great force, so that I seemed severely injured. The next thing I realized, I was raised up, with two dear Scientists kneeling beside me. I asked them to help me up, while I declared the truth for myself. In a few moments I put on my things, and with a little help walked to and from the lecture, a distance of four blocks. The sense of pain was relieved somewhat during the lecture, and much help was given me during the night. For three days I was quite helpless in bed, but the sixth day I returned to Mitchell, walking over half a mile and feeling no inconvenience. It was three weeks before the arm could be moved from my side, but nothing was ever done for it except Christian Science treatment, and now I hardly see any difference between that and the other arm. I am seventy years of age and am quite heavy. Once before I had a very severely injured ankle, but with my understanding of the truth as revealed in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I did not lose over two hours work. I cannot express my gratitude for this truth which has come to us through our dear Leader.
Lucy M. Ashcroft, Marshalltown, Ia.
