My gratitude toward Christian Science, and thankfulness...
My gratitude toward Christian Science, and thankfulness for the many blessings derived therefrom on account of its teachings bringing one so close to God, prompts me to send this testimony, with the hope that it may be a benefit to some who are in doubt as to its capability of bringing blessings and joy to those who are in need. It was my misfortune to become a victim to many diseases which made me practically an invalid for twelve years. I suffered greatly from lung and other troubles, all of which were supposed to have been inherited, also from a bad case of skin disease, and I was besides held in bondage by what is known as female weakness, which left me in a pitiable condition. When a child my eyesight was such that it was necessary for me to wear glasses, and until I was thirty years of age I wore them continually. During my servitude under these taskmasters I was attended by the best of physicians, who were indeed very kind, but I was unable to find health or rest through their endeavors, and my condition finally became such that they gave me up to die.
It was at this time that Christian Science was brought to my attention. A Scientist came to call, and during our conversation he remarked, "All is Life; there is no death," and although I had been taught to believe in a literal heaven, hell, and death, I seemed to realize that this dear friend had spoken the truth. After he had gone, my thoughts dwelt upon what he had told me and I received great relief. That night I slept peacefully, which was something I had not done for many years. The following morning I awoke, thinking I heard some one calling me to get up, and before I realized what I was doing I got out of bed and walked across the floor. It seemed as if I had gained a new body and a happy mind. The evils which had possessed me departed, and I really felt new all over. This was on April 13, 1896, and I immediately took up the study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. After three weeks' reading of the text-book a bad case of skin trouble was healed, leaving no effects upon me; my glasses were also discarded, and at no time since have I found it necessary to use them. Through persistent study of Science and Health, with the Bible, I soon began to prove the truth for myself, with the result that I have found God a present help in every time of need. My faith in Christian Science has proved of great benefit to me, and as I reflect on the many blessings derived therefrom I can say with joy in my heart, as did St. Paul, I "glory in tribulations," for in them I have proved and seen the salvation of God. I would not part with this glorious truth for the world's output of gold. Through Christian Science I have secured health, rest, and the peace which passeth human understanding. Christian Science has taught me how to return love for hate; in short, this truth has made me a better woman, and I am indeed thankful for what it has done for me. Since my healing in 1896, we have not used any medicine in our home.
My heart overflows with sincere gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for all the blessings I have received, both spiritually and physically. Surely we have found the way to heaven, harmony, and holiness. My prayer is that I may live in obedience to Christ, Truth, and realize more love and spiritual understanding.
