My first introduction to Christian Science was in February...
My first introduction to Christian Science was in February, 1903. I had been a great sufferer for many years, and it seemed to me I had every disease to which mortal could fall heir, although I had been treated by the most eminent physicians that could be found, besides having tried all kinds of remedies, in fact everything that was suggested to me. I had liver trouble very bad; the doctors said I never could be restored. I also had rheumatic trouble in its worst form, so that I could scarcely wear shoes at all. When the doctors said they could do nothing more for me, I was very much discouraged. I decided to quit drugs and doctors. I gathered up all the medicine I had in the house and threw it out. I then wrote to my daughter, telling her of my condition, and in reply she sent me a copy of Science and Health. When I saw what it was I knew it was what I had been looking for, and I soon became deeply interested in its wondrous teachings. The more I read the more I wanted to know of it, and in three months' time I was entirely healed. I was also healed of bowel trouble of thirty years' standing, through the reading of this wonderful book. As I wished to know more of this truth, I went to the Christian Science church. The first Sunday I was there I was greatly impressed with the services. Not long after this I was able to overcome for myself a severe injury to my arm. I was thrown from a street car and a doctor insisted I should take an anesthetic to have the bone set. I told him I had not felt any pain and I knew it could not hurt me to have it set. He said it was so serious he could not do it without, but my husband told him I could stand it, and to go on with the work; which he did. My husband said he knew the doctor was astonished to see how well I stood it. The doctor said it would be eight weeks before I could use my arm at all, but the third day I combed my hair, and in three weeks I was able to attend to my household duties as usual. This proves what even a little understanding of the truth means to us. It gives a positive proof of the allness of God and shows that He is an ever-present help. I make this statement in loving gratitude to God, and to our beloved Leader for bringing to us this practical Science.—Mrs. A. C. Hackworth, Seattle, Wash.
