Until about eight years ago, when Christian Science was...

Until about eight years ago, when Christian Science was first presented to me, I had never known the meaning of the word happiness. The few bright places were overshadowed by the constant dread of impending calamity. Having always been considered delicate, I was afraid of the different conditions of the atmosphere, of what I ate and what I drank, and I was in a state of constant pain and depression, which terminated in severe nervous and spinal trouble. Unable to become reconciled to the God whom I had been taught to serve, yet hungering and thirsting after righteousness, I was without hope or God in the world. This mental blindness was manifested physically, my sight continually growing poorer. After the first Christian Science treatment I never again needed my glasses, and while striving for the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus" the ills of the flesh have vanished into their native nothingness, and I have found that peace which passeth all understanding, which the world can neither give nor take away. Words are inadequate to express my boundless gratitude, so I can only strive to follow the pattern shown on the mount—choosing to serve the God revealed to us through the purity and wonderful understanding of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
