A SEEKER AFTER LIGHT

Indianapolis Star

To the Indianapolis Star:

Passing a Christian Science church a few days ago, I noticed men unloading wagons of coal and kindling for heating purposes, and the thought occurred to me, Why this needless accumulation of fuel and outlay of money? If the cult leads to belief of insensibility to feelings of pain in other ways, why not to cold or heat? Why not assemble their audience and imagine the building warm and comfortable, and thus demonstrate beyond peradventure the error arising in orthodox minds in regard to this matter? That would be a practical side of their religion through which they would gather a host of converts to them, for there is nothing that appeals to the Christian mind, as well as to the immaterialist, like financial demonstrations. Continuing the same reasoning, Why eat to sustain the material body on this earth, if we are all spirit? Another laudable financial demonstration, if it can be compassed. I should like to be informed where sensibility and insensibility begin and end, being possessed of considerable nerves myself.
