TRUE WORSHIP

The Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.—Isaiah.

In the second chapter of Isaiah we read that "the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains,"—in other words, that the Divine idea will be exalted above all human concepts, and that all nations shall seek to know the truth. The prophet also tells of the disappearance of idolatry,—"a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats," and it is interesting to note that this prophecy is being literally fulfilled at the present time in China, where the people are casting their idols into the rivers, and where the native press is coming out boldly against idolatry. This may be regarded as a natural sequence of general enlightenment, but it should be remembered that the Chinese people have for ages been refined and intellectual, yet they were far from being monotheists. It should also be remembered that although the ancient Greeks and Romans were distinguished for their learning, they were grossly idolatrous, and their mental concepts of Deity were not only puerile but actually vicious.
