I served four years in the Civil War, was captured and sent to Libby prison, and there contracted lung trouble and many other diseases. Following my return home I spent hundreds of dollars for medical treatment with eminent physicians. I then went to the Pacific coast for a change of climate, and spent nearly two years in traveling for my health. My family physician told me he could not cure me, and I then went to a hospital. After an examination I was told that I could not be cured, and that I could not live in this climate. After another medical experiment I was again advised to try change of climate, but I settled my affairs and waited for death to relieve me of my suffering, which I thought would not be long.
I was then appealed to in a way to which I could not say no, and I very reluctantly agreed to make one more effort for life. Christian Science was first brought to my notice from a reliable source, and as it was the only available thing that I had not tried, I went to a practitioner at Seattle, Wash., and was healed. I took thirteen treatments in May, 1902, and I am well to-day and living where the doctors said I could not live. I feel that I am living a new life, and that it is worth living, and now my chief aim is to do something for suffering humanity.
On my return home after being healed through Christian Science, I met the specialist who had treated me last, and he insisted on making an examination of my lungs. When this was done he said my lungs were virtually healed. Some time ago my former family physician had a case that he could not cure, and he sent the patient to me, saying he knew I had been healed, and that I could tell where the cure might be found.
