The Keweenaw Miner
Mrs. Eddy is a remarkably wide-awake woman, of the brightest intelligence and amply capable of attending to her own financial affairs, even at the age of eighty-six years. This was recently attested to by the Mayor of Concord and by some of the officials of the largest banking institutions in New Hampshire. Mrs. Eddy has undoubtedly been greatly misunderstood, grossly misrepresented, and cruelly maligned, but it has been done by those who were jealous, by those who do not know her or who could not appreciate the credit, the gratitude, and the love to which her worthy motives entitle her from all who desire a better and grander humanity, and who believe it possible to establish the kingdom of heaven upon earth, in accordance with the prayer and teachings of the Son of Man. They cannot possibly know what her devotion and consecration to God and humanity have made possible here below. Midst all this persecution, Mrs. Eddy herself has borne it with a self-sacrificing disposition that will, of itself, entitle her to the glory due her noble name. Mrs. Eddy has earned peace and quiet through devotion and self-sacrifice, her spiritual understanding and teachings, but the vampire of materialism, like the great red dragon that it is, is swollen and inflamed, spitting its venomous poison at her every footstep, "because he knoweth that he hath but a short time."
