In 1902 I began to be sick
In 1902 I began to be sick. I tried home remedies and taking care of myself for a year. During this time an uncle who was visiting us told us of Christian Science, but no one paid any attention to it. I finally was so ill that my relatives called in a doctor. He cared for me the next six months, but I grew steadily worse, and finally I was bedfast. The doctor said mine was a strange case and that he really could not decide what was the matter with me. He tried first one remedy, then another, till at last he told my folks I would never be well. At this hour of need the uncle again visited us, and this time we gladly heard of Science.
We are German people, and at that time none of us except a brother could speak or understand very much English. My brother brought a practitioner, and I took my first treatment New Year's day, 1904. It was not only a new year, it was a new life to me. I felt so happy after the treatment, and I agreed with the practitioner that if I should be able I would come to her office the next day. That night I had the first real sleep I had for months, and the next day found me willing and able to go to the practitioner. Though we could none of us read English save my brother, I bought a copy of Science and Health. The Lesson-Sermon that week showed how all language is of Mind, God, and this has helped me. I have learned to read our text-book, and I can prove that I understand it for I have had many demonstrations of what it has taught me. It has taught me to love the Bible, a book I did not care for before, but now I read it in both German and English. Der Herold has been a blessing to us, giving us the Lessons in the German too. In all I had twelve treatments, and am so glad to be well. I work all day long; and best of all, I know what health is now.
My mother had lung trouble the year previous to my healing. We had a doctor, heavy expenses, a long spell of sickness, and a longer convalescence. Soon after I was healed my mother again had the same trouble. This time she had Christian Science treatment, and was well in one week. Not only was she well, but her fear of a relapse was overcome. We are indeed grateful for Christian Science.—Anna Korth, Leavenworth, Kan.
