In April, 1903, my husband and I attended our first Christian Science...

In April, 1903, my husband and I attended our first Christian Science service and were deeply enough impressed to want to learn what those people knew that we did not, so we bought a copy of the text-book, Science and Health, and began to study. For years I had been subject to bowel and rheumatic trouble, etc., and was wearing glasses for eye trouble. To-day I am free from them all, and am perfectly well and strong. Christian Science has proved to be the best of remedies for the children; the so-called diseases of childhood all yielding to the truth. I could write pages and then not tell all, for we have learned that there is no form of discord so small or so great which the truth as taught in our text-book will not help.

While we are indeed grateful for the physical healing and protection, it is as nothing compared with the sense of peace and rest that comes with the enlarged understanding of God as our Father-Mother, as made known to us through the teachings of our text-book. We took our oldest child at the age of six to an eminent oculist, who treated her eyes and fitted them with glasses. At the time he said it would be necessary for her to wear them all her life. Three years later she was treated by another oculist, and the same verdict was given. September, 1902, she started in at school, still under the oculist's care. While she did not often complain, her eyes were not improving. At times she could not distinguish work placed on the blackboard, although the teacher had given her a front seat. The following April she asked if she might go to the Christian Science Sunday School. To-day she says it seemed then very much like any other Sunday School, except that the teacher asked her why she wore glasses, and then said, "Don't you know God never made sick eyes?" She did not know then, but she knows now, for on the way home she took off her glasses, and has never put them on nor felt the need of them, nor has she tried to save her eyes in any way since. She made four grades in school in the first two years after her eyes were healed. I feel that I can never be grateful enough to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, our dear Leader, for giving us this blessed truth.
