THE LECTURES

Rev. Arthur Reeves Vosburgh spoke yesterday afternoon [Feb. 24] at Odd Fellows Temple before a large audience composed of the many Christian Scientists of the city and vicinity, and as many more interested in a secular way to here so well known a visiting lecturer. The lecturer was introduced by the Rev. William H. Dodd, First Reader of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, of this city, who said in part,—

Christian Science offers that which satisfies the need of humanity. It is sometimes said that it is well enough for nervous troubles and for people who have nothing much the matter with them anyhow. But it claims the right to enter a larger field and comes to minister to the world's need. Jesus, the greatest healer in the world, united in his life-work healing and preaching. He preached few sermons, but healed many sick. Alas! do-day his disciples preach many sermons, but leave the ministry of healing to the schools that apparently do not recognize the validity of his healing. In view of this, is there not cause for a return to the method by which Jesus healed the sick?
