As Pastor Emeritus of The First Church of Christ, Scientist,...

The Topeka (Kan.) Herald

As Pastor Emeritus of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, Mrs. Eddy has exercised unlimited power of initiation and veto in the management of the Christian Science work. It was conferred upon her by the Manual of the Church, and with the approval of all those connected with the Church organization, not as a bestowal of honor or even in recognition of her right to prominence as the Founder of the Christian Science religion, but as a matter of practical Church policy. The results have more than demonstrated the wisdom of the course. The creation and development of a religious denomination numbering more than one million followers, and owning some of the finest church property in the world, in a period of less than thirty-five years, is one of the greatest achievements of the last century. It is all Mrs. Eddy's work. She has been the originator and the director of this remarkable movement, which has spread to all quarters of the globe and which has among its adherents many of the most intelligent and influential people everywhere. No church organization known to-day is more harmoniously managed and freer from personal bickerings and jealousies than that of which Mrs. Eddy is the head. This fact is due to the wonderful tact and wisdom with which she has guided and directed it through the trials and tribulations which beset all new movements.
