I am a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and my age is sixty-nine. On the morning of Sunday, July 1, 1906, I found myself unable to get up, having become to a great extent helpless. This condition was accompanied by giddiness and faintness, and continued throughout the day. Having been interested in Christian Science for about two years, I tried hard during the day to help myself, but all unavailingly. By evening I looked on my condition as serious. On Monday morning I was no better, and I decided to ask for help from a practitioner who kindly came over to me in the afternoon. My case was treated at once and I was then able without help to walk to my bed. I slept well that night, and in the morning I found myself well—healed! That day I went over to town and walked about for some three hours, doing business, and in a state of grateful wonder and amazement. All fear had gone from me; it was no longer belief with me, but knowledge. God had sent me the wisdom for which I had been asking. I had learned that "the muddy river-bed must be stirred in order to purify the stream" (Science and Health, p. 540). I am thankful to God, whose promises are always sure, and thankful to Mrs. Eddy, who is devoting her life for the salvation of all by her inspired writings, which interpret for us Christ's teaching, and I am thankful to the friend who plucked for me the leaf from the tree of healing which my materiality prevented me from reaching.
