I desire to express my gratitude for what Christian Science...

I desire to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. I cannot begin to enumerate all the blessings that have come to me through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and the help of practitioners. I had been a sufferer for over ten years, and had given up all hope of ever being well again. I had four operations performed, but had been told by a number of physicians that I would never be well again. During the years of my sickness I had not been able to walk or do anything that required the least effort. I had always prayed to God to help me, but my prayers never seemed to be answered. One day I was reading a book which spoke of all the healing that Jesus did when he was on earth, and the thought came to me that if Jesus healed all who came to him then, he would also heal me if I would leave all else and rely entirely on God for help. For several weeks I prayed daily that I might be led to that which was best for me. I had often said that I could not see why God made me suffer so much, but was always told that it was for my good some way.

I kept on trusting in God, believing that He would surely help me to find a way out of my suffering; and He did, through one who came and told me of Christian Science. I went to a practitioner, commenced treatment, and felt the help at once. I cannot describe the joy and freedom that came to me when I was told that God never sent me this sickness. It seemed to me wonderful and beautiful; all my sadness was changed to gladness. Although my healing was slow, I am very thankful that after so many years of sickness I can now do my own housework and walk as much as I please. One of the many diseases from which I suffered was heart trouble, and we all expected it would end my life some day.

It is not the physical healing alone that makes me hold fast to the teaching of Christian Science, but it is the spiritual uplifting, that understanding of God which Christ Jesus promised we should have, with the peace that passeth all human understanding. I have had many hard struggles with error, and I have learned that we cannot reach heaven by merely asking, but that it is striving which enables us to enter. I feel very thankful to our Leader for bringing us this blessed truth, for I have been made healthier and happier by it. I trust that this feeble effort at acknowledgment of some of the benefits derived from Christian Science may be the means whereby others may be led to investigate the truth as taught in Science and Health.
