In view of the fact that so many people honestly fail...
Schenectady (N. Y.) Gazette
In view of the fact that so many people honestly fail to understand just why Christian Scientists have more faith in Christian Science than in medical treatment, I feel sure that the readers of your valuable paper will be interested in a brief statement of their position.
Christian Scientists believe that the religion of Jesus Christ is sufficient to regenerate the sinner and to heal the sick. Their faith is founded upon the fact that Jesus himself healed the sick, and taught his disciples to do so. In each case where he commissioned disciples and sent them into the world he commanded them to both preach the gospel and heal the sick. Christian Scientists believe that the command to heal is of as high authority as the command to preach, and that it is duty of the Christian Church to obey Jesus in both commands.
There are many thousands of people who testify that they have been both healed and regenerated by Christian Science. They come from every walk in life, and there is no reasonable ground for disbelieving their statements. The rapid growth of Christian Science is the marvel of the age, but it becomes more marvelous when it is understood that practically all Christian Scientists became such only after they themselves, or members of their families, had been healed through its teachings. In fact most of them ridiculed and scoffed at the claims of Christian Science until they became witnesses of its power.
