I have always looked to what I thought was God, and...
I have always looked to what I thought was God, and prayed to Him, but never until I knew that sin had to be overcome before it could be forgiven, did I find Him; and in the degree that I follow Christ do I realize what God is, and that all sin and disease can be healed. Poverty had followed me all my days, and was in my mother's family before me. When I began to study Science and Health, eight years ago, I was destitute; my furniture was mortgaged; I had nothing in the house to eat, and no work. I earnestly sought help from God, and took my Bible and went away by myself. In that hour I was directed to go to one who gave me a desirable position. I have since been promoted, and all my debts are paid. Now, I live without fear of want, and in the understanding that in God is my supply. In the mean time all my physical troubles are disappearing. I have been healed of a chronic sense of melancholy; of female trouble of all kinds; of liver trouble. etc.: and best of all, I have learned to know in a degree what divine Love is, and can demonstrate my understanding in the healing of disease. Instead of getting up in the morning with a load of care and misery, I rise with joy and thanksgiving for all God's goodness and lovingkindness to the children of men.
It is vain for me to attempt to express in words my gratitude and love to our dear Leader, who has brought all this to me and a waiting world. In The Mother Church in Boston I prayed in deepest humility to be able to so live that I may heal the sick and sinful; and this is her wish for all her followers.—Ella G. Holtzman, Washington, D. C.
