"HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE."

The news item from the Concord Patriot which appears on this page will be read with much pleasure by Christian Scientists, and also by all others who appreciate the character of Mrs. Eddy's work, her intense activity in behalf of humanity, and the benefits which have accrued to the race through her spiritual discernment and her teachings. The honor that has just been conferred upon our Leader is the occasion for an editorial in the Boston Journal from which we quote as follows:—

The honor which the French government has bestowed upon Mrs. Eddy must afford considerable pleasure to Christian Scientists, particularly those who rallied around her years ago in this city and have been more or less closely associated with her in the upbuilding of the new denomination. Mrs. Eddy's writings and the new creed which she has founded thus receive official recognition from a government whose officers, judging by the course which they have followed in recent years, are heartily in sympathy with twentieth-century tendencies.

In the United States the Scientists continue to make noteworthy gains. According to the figures compiled last year by Dr. H. K. Carroll for The Christian Advocate, the Scientists, with their 71,114 communicants, were already stronger than either the Unitarians or the Universalists, though they had not so many churches as the latter.

Comparatively few years have elapsed since Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science, and the progress of the movement to which the Journal calls attention has been entirely due to her work; hence, in recognizing this work as a power for good to the world, France has but given "honor to whom honor is due."
