The fall of 1895 found me a hopeless sufferer from a severe nervous trouble supposed to be caused by female weakness and a general breaking down of the constitution. Only those who have suffered with the same trouble can know what I endured. The doctor that attended me said I would never be well again. I told him I would rather die than live as I then was, if it were not for my little children, although I could not have them around me, as the least noise caused me much suffering. I could not see a single ray of hope until one day—how well I remember it—when my sister came to see me and told me of some healing that was being done by Christian Science. I had never heard of Christian Science before, but was ready to grasp at anything for help, so we decided that my husband should see if the practitioner would come to me. She came, and after a short talk and a treatment, she told me to get ready and go back to town with her. I felt that I could, but had eaten nothing that day as everything had seemed to distress me. The practitioner told me to eat anything I wished; that it would not hurt me. I did so, and then got ready and rode a mile on a winter day, stayed all the afternoon, and came home happy and uplifted.

Words cannot describe my relief, and my husband and children rejoiced with me. Since that time I have not taken any medicine or employed a doctor, and am in perfect health. The healing was instantaneous. I did not take over seven treatments, as I bought a copy of Science and Health to study. I can never be thankful enough for the blessings that Christian Science has brought to me and mine, for I have had many demonstrations of the truth in my family. Not one of my old ailments has troubled me, and it sometimes seems impossible to think I could ever have been in such bondage. There are many people here who know of my wonderful healing, and that I have been in good health ever since. I am rejoicing every day that this blessed truth came to me, for I find it is a present help in all kinds of trouble.—Emma Welch, Hurley, S. D.
