AMONG THE CHURCHES

Agitation and discussion promote and induce inquiry, and it is undoubtedly true that, more than ever before, this is so in regard to Christian Science. It is true beyond all question that within the last few years the number of believers in Christian Science has increased greatly, and the Scientists will tell you it is because they demonstrate the truth, and their witnesses are those who have suffered and been healed; those who have been cured, both of disease and sin.

One year ago last October a few earnest and aspiring Christian Scientists organized Second Church of Christ, Scientist, which is a branch of The Mother Church in Boston. The first service was held in the hall in Chase Block, Nov. 5, 1905. It is a suggestive fact that last Wednesday evening the last meeting was held in this hall. But a little more than a year had passed since the church was organized. Night after night new faces were seen at these meetings; night after night new voices were heard thanking God and Christian Science for health of body and soul. Last Wednesday evening many an eye was moist, many a voice trembled, as the last word was said in the little hall which is no longer large enough to accommodate the number that attend. In future the meetings are to be held at Warner Hall, at the usual hours.

One who attends a meeting of Christian Scientists will be disappointed if he goes there expecting noisy demonstration and blind fanaticism. The solemn hush of the moments devoted to silent prayer, the modest and plain statements of those who express gratitude for healing, after the trusted physician had turned from the bedside of the sufferer, leaving no hope behind, induces serious thought and a desire to understand more of Christian Science.
