I desire to express my gratitude for Christian Science, this wondrous truth. A little over two years ago, when seemingly a physical wreck, weighing only ninety-seven pounds, I turned to Christian Science as a last and only resort, and was healed. To the practitioners of materia medica in Los Angeles my healing was a source of great astonishment, and many have exclaimed, "Marvelous,—yes, miraculous!" About two years ago, being unable to get relief from material means, I turned in sore distress, and almost insane from the use of drugs, to God. I had for eight years suffered most severely from a complicated kidney disease and, as diagnosed by six of our most prominent physicians, after a thorough examination, a typical case of nervous trouble. For years I suffered without finding relief, and the last year, after losing all strength, I took morphine for the pain. The habit grew on me very strongly, in fact became my dependence. In connection with this drug I also used cocaine, and much as I desired to overcome this habit, my efforts were of no avail. In desperation my relatives made arrangements to send me to an insane asylum, even though they doubted if I would live through the ordeal.

Having been a trained nurse before my marriage, I knew that nothing material could remedy my condition. I, however, believed that all things are possible to God, and having heard that Christian Scientists healed through this knowledge, I determined to try the treatment. I consulted a practitioner and engaged a Christian Science nurse. I took my first Science treatment on the 22nd of June, 1904, and in one treatment all craving for the drugs was destroyed. The other few treatments given were to overcome the evil effects that follow the use of these drugs. For years I had been afraid to eat substantial food, but I gained twenty-nine pounds in twenty-eight days, and in less than three months I had gained forty-six pounds and was perfectly well. The trained nurse was discharged at the end of eight days, as I was then able to do anything required of me. I had used the drugs hypodermically, but practically every mark had disappeared in a year's time. The many doctors who had handled my case thought my healing marvelous, and I have received from three of them, who stand high in their profession, a signed certificate from each, testifying to the firm belief that I was healed through the application of Christian Science, from an apparently hopeless condition.

To me even this wonderful physical healing seems little in comparison to the spiritual uplifting which this truth has brought. In my former belief the Bible had been a closed book, and the sweet revelation of Truth was wonderful to me. I pray that my daily life may express the sincere gratitude I feel to God, and to our revered Leader, whose pure life enabled me to drink from the waters of eternal Life, bringing me hope, health, happiness, and "peace that passeth all understanding."
