In 1888 the premature birth of twins left me in a wretched physical condition, and from that time until August, 1900, I was never without pain. Sixteen years ago I was told by one of the physicians in Kentucky, then attending me, that while I might get along for a while without an operation, I could not avoid that ordeal at some time. For three years my sufferings were were at times beyond description. Then I was told of a physician in Kansas City who was said to be an expert in cases such as mine, and the hope was held out to me that he might cure me. I came to Kansas City, and to my physical troubles other trials were added which prostrated me completely. I then put myself under this physician's care, and for one year he labored faithfully to restore me to health, that I might be in a position to be self-supporting and to carry on my chosen work,—that of nursing the sick. While I seemed to be much benefited by his treatments, he frankly stated that I could never be healed; and said I ought to be contented if I could give six months of the year to my work and nurse myself the other six. After a time my health began to deteriorate rapidly, until in the year 1900 I had lost all hope of ever being well, as at that time I was almost a nervous and physical wreck.

In March, 1900, I was told of Christian Science, but my ignorance and prejudice would not allow me to seek help from this source. In August, 1900, I sought the aid of another physician, who, after a thorough examination, informed me that an operation was not only imperative but must be performed at once; that the local conditions were of the very worst, and would produce fatal results, if the operation was delayed. He told me there was absolutely nothing that could give me any relief but the surgeon's knife; but my eight years' experience in nursing the sick had taught me that an operation of this character left the subject a nervous wreck, and this caused me to dread the operation. I longed for and desired health, and in my extremity I turned to Christian Science as my last hope, and in six months was a well woman. I was given two present treatments, the rest being absent.

Words are inadequate to tell of the wonderful peace that has come to me through my healing in Christian Science. I had never expected anything so good to come to me, and my heart is filled with gratitude to our revered Leader. Mrs. Eddy, for having been found faithful enough and pure enough to be made a channel through which God could speak to His people, and heal us of all our iniquities and of all our diseases. To-day I know, through my own personal experience, that Christian Science does heal the sick and reform the sinner.
