About seven years ago I turned to Christian Science for help in a very distressing form of nervous exhaustion. I had been treated by at least ten different physicians, but none of them gave me any relief, nor could they account for my peculiar symptoms. At last an eminent physician on the Pacific coast said he believed he should have to call my case one of incipient locomotor ataxia. He gave me electrical treatments, etc., but gave me no encouragement that he could effect a cure. After returning to my native city, Pittsburg, Pa., I found myself constantly growing worse. I could stand on my feet but a few moments at a time, and was only comfortable when sitting or lying down. I had been in this condition and steadily growing worse for about five years, when Christian Science was suggested to me as a possible remedy. I knew absolutely nothing for or against this teaching, but I applied at once to a practitioner for help, and was treated for about six weeks. I began to improve at once; at the same time I was reading Science and Health, for I was convinced from the first that if I was to be transformed from discord to harmony, it must be done by the "renewing of the mind," as the Scripture affirms,—a radical change must take place in my mode of thinking. My healing was slow, and many times I would become discouraged, but my patient practitioner was so absolutely sure of my ultimate recovery that I gave up doubting and devoted the best of my time to the study of Science and Health. Now I have my reward in my relief not only from nervousness, but from many discordant bodily conditions, and the spiritual gain which is mine is very dear to me. My dependence upon God as the giver of all good. and the peace and rest which I now have both of mind and body, is priceless.
I am now striving to gain more of this Christ-consciousness, that will enable me to help those around me, whom I see bound by the errors of sense, to see this glorious "light of Truth" and thereby emerge from the darkness which seems to envelop them. For the Lesson-Sermons and the Sentinel and Journal I am very thankful. My love and gratitude go out to our dear Leader, who has shown us how to work out our own salvation from all discordant physical and mental conditions.
