A Business Man's Letter

[The following letter is from a well-known business man who has found Christian Science to be a help to him in his business, because through its teachings he has been freed from the worries, fears, quarrels, and physical ills which most business men look upon as the unpleasant, yet inevitable, accompaniments of a busy career.

Individual Work

There is an old adage which runs somewhat in this fashion:—

A Practical Lesson

It was in the early days of my Christian Science experience that I gave my first offering towards the building of the then new Mother Church.

Retaining or Remitting

Before coming into some understanding of Christian Science this verse presented many difficulties to me.

A Clematis Vine

I have received some very helpful lessons from a clematis vine which had been planted to climb over my piazza.
It is doubtful if, since the days of the primitive Christians, there has been such a wonderful demonstration of religious faith and enlightened zeal as that exhibited at Boston, Sunday, when forty thousand Christian Scientists from all parts of the world assembled to participate in the dedication of the Extension of The Mother Church of that denomination.
Those of us who do not accept the doctrine of Christian Science are possibly too prone to approach it in a spirit of levity, too often disposed to touch upon it with the tongue of facetiousness.
The dedication of a church in Boston, built at an expense of about two million dollars, calls public attention to the flourishing fortunes of the Christian Scientists.
When a man has heard repeatedly that people considered incurable have been healed by this renewed understanding of prayer, he is apt, if he is suffering himself, or if any one dear to him is suffering, to realize that though the skill of men is exhaustible the power of God is infinite.
Good alone emanates from God.

Our Campaign of Education

During the six years that the Publication Committee has been at work, the results accruing from its labors have amply justified the wisdom of our Leader in establishing it as an agency for the correction of misstatements regarding Christian Science and its followers, but this Committee still has a great deal of work before it, and it needs the earnest and loyal support of every member of our Church in order that it may accomplish the good it should do.
Every manifestation of prejudice is obtrusive and out of place, but its utter unfitness is never quite so apparent as when it displays itself in the columns of a religious journal.

The Living Bread

We can estimate the relative value which the great Teacher placed upon the spiritual and material, when we consider his words, "Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life;" to which he added, "He that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

Letters to our Leader

Washington, D.
I wish to express, however inadequately, my acknowledgment of benefits received through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs.
It is over four years since I came to Christian Science for help—not at first by asking for treatment, but studying the Bible and Science and Health, also "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs.
For about thirty years I was troubled with indigestion or stomach trouble.
Some time ago I had an experience which taught me how necessary it is that we deny every error at its first appearance, and declare the power of Truth.
One evening my right foot suddenly began hurting as if sprained.
It is with a heart full of thankfulness that I give my testimony of the blessings received through Christian Science.
In loving gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, I give my testimony for this wondrous truth, which has come into my life to bless and to purify.
When Christian Science came to me it found me in the field of materia medica, where I had been working as a trained nurse for years, always questioning, Is there no way to eradicate sickness, sorrow, and death from the human family?
About seven years ago I turned to Christian Science for help in a very distressing form of nervous exhaustion.
In May, 1903, I became violently insane.
About sixteen years ago I had a severe attack of the grip, which left me with lame shoulders and a cough.
Eight years ago I was very ill.
Christian Science was brought to my notice in 1904.

Truth's Coming

In Thy name! O Love transcendent,Cometh one proclaiming goodAs the Life of all—resplendentEverywhere when understood.

From our Exchanges

I do think I have the right to demand of my preacher who ministers to me the truth, that he has tested it by his own thinking or his own experience, that he has made it his own truth.
