In 1901 I had a serious stomach trouble which never yielded to medical treatment, but I steadily grew worse until within a year I suffered from three attacks of gastric fever and was given up to die by my family physician and his council. Before the last attack of fever, I had met with an accident which injured seriously my left ankle and wrist, splitting the cartilage of one and tearing the ligaments of the other to such an extent that three doctors said they could not be cured, but that I would always be a cripple. I could use my hand only by wearing a rubber mitt. My right eye had been injured when I was seven years old, since which time I had been able to see but very little with it. As the stomach trouble increased the sight of this eye began to fail, so that I could do nothing without glasses and I suffered the most excruciating pain. All this suffering brought on such severe nervous trouble that one doctor said he saw only insanity before me unless relief came from some source. At this time I was not sleeping except under the influence of opiates. Five physicians had failed to help me, also another method which was tried.
During this time my mother had been healed of consumption by Christian Science and I was advised to try it. Finally, in 1994, after much hesitation, I decided to do so, and after the second treatment I began eating anything I wished. Within a week my sight had returned, my wrist and ankle had resumed their normal condition, and the nervousness had vanished. I was practically a well woman, after taking but seven treatments. I gained twenty-nine pounds within a few months, and have remained well. My husband also was healed of asthma. My gratitude to God is unbounded, also to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
