In 1878 I had a very serious trouble with my eyes, which was diagnosed as acute inflammation of the optic nerve. that time until 1899 my eyes were never well. I was under the care of physicians most of the time. For fifteen months I also suffered from acute inflammatory rheumatism. In 1896 at the age of fifty-five years, I became an inmate of a home for incurables San Francisco. In my application for membership my case was described by the physician as "incurable intestinal catarrh." In July of 1898 the trouble with my eyes became greatly aggravated, and after consulting several of the leading oculists in the city I placed myself under treatment at the polyclinic. After nine months' treatment three of the best oculists in town held a consultation and decided that there was no possible cure for my eyes, that I must wear the darkest glasses procurable, and urged upon me the necessity of the greatest care, telling me that any use of my eyes, such as reading, sewing, etc., would result in total blindness.
A few days after this, in the depths of my despair, I heard of Christian Science. I had treatment, and after a week the pain was gone, and the practitioner invited me to visit her, knowing that her home would be more favorable to recovery than the environment of the hospital. Two days after entering her home, the cure was complete. My colored glasses were discarded, and I have never put them on since. Less than two weeks later my eyes were most severely tested by hours of unavoidable writing by gaslight, proving the completeness of their recovery. Soon after, I had a sharp attack of rheumatism, from which I suffered for two days. On the third day I spoke of it to the practitioner, when one treatment destroyed it, and it has never returned. Numerous other ailments also disappeared in a very short time, and my speedy and complete recovery was immediately followed by my permanent retirement from the Home.
Christian Science has given me everything, and I cannot express my gratitude for this wonderful truth.
