I feel that the time has come for me to join the ever-increasing...
I feel that the time has come for me to join the ever-increasing "cloud of witnesses" who have been healed and otherwise benefited by Christian Science. My attention was first called to it by the very remarkable healing of a friend who was given up to die by the doctors. When I was told that these people claimed to heal diseases in the same way that Jesus did when on earth, I made every effort to learn all I could about it, with the result that I soon saw that there was no other religion for me. I felt that if Jesus healed the sick, the same power could do so now, for he said that the works which he did, we should do also, "and greater works than these." The first ailment which vanished for me by the application of Christian Science was what the doctors called muscular rheumatism. I had suffered with it for about eight years, and never expected to get rid of it, as I was under the impression that old people are almost sure to have rheumatic affections in some form. It constantly grew worse, and I was trying to bear it the best I could when I read in the Sentinel of the healing of similar cases, so I fully made up my mind that I, too, could and would be healed. I immediately used what little knowledge I had gained from Science and Health, that wonderful book, and in a short time every vestige of the disease disappeared. It left almost instantly; and for more than two years it did not return.
Then very unexpectedly the old trouble appeared again. I was grieved, as I had learned to love Christian Science and now feared that I could not overcome the severe pain; but I could see no other way than to try, for there are no practitioners here to go to for help. I therefore undertook the work again myself, and it required more than a week, but I thank God that I did not give up, for again Truth was victor, and joy and peace came to me in God's good time, which is now, —"now is the accepted time." The "great physician" will heal us now; we need not die to be freed from the dire effects of sin, and be saved by divine Love. One of the chief attractions of the Christian Science religion is that it meets our present wants. I have only our text-book, and some other literature, but it seems as if God knows all about me and helps me all the time. I have not only been able to overcome the rheumatism, which was stubborn because of my strong belief that with old people it is incurable, but many other ailments have disappeared in my family, among which are colds, toothache, cholera morbus, boils, etc.
I feel very thankful that one was found pure enough to receive this message from God to us, so that we, as well as they who lived in Jesus' time, may touch the hem of Christ's garment and be healed of all our diseases, as well as receive the forgiveness of all our sins.
