Some years ago I had a growth which necessitated a very critical operation, and it was considered marvelous that I had no return of the trouble. In September, 1904, I became conscious of a constant pain at the place where the growth had been. I had been studying Christian Science for nearly four years and I tried to overcome this trouble. I worked on for about three weeks without any perceptible change. I was getting rather discouraged, when one day, while asking myself what I intended to do, a picture of the hospital, the doctors, and the operation came up, and I realized that it was not necessary to repeat this experience. I then thought of going to a Scientist, but remembered that it is the truth which heals, that I knew the truth and I could declare it. I began at once to repeat the scientific statement of being, from our text-book (Science and Health, p. 468), and as I continued to declare the spirituality of man and the universe, I forgot about the pain till I reached home, some hours later. It had gone and has never returned. Then I knew that I had proved the truth of our Leader's words, beginning on line 12, page 14 of Science and Health. I would like to give one more experience. In going from a light room into a dark passage, I fell and injured my hand. The pain was intense, but I mentally declared the truth and in a few moments I was free from it. I managed to do some things from the first and in a week did my work without help. In a fortnight my hand was almost as strong as before. I am very grateful for these and other demonstrations, but they are nothing in comparison to the spiritual understanding of God and man and the Bible which I have gained from the study of Mrs. Eddy's works.
