As it is a little over a year since my attention was directed to Christian Science, and having received so much help from articles and testimonies in our periodicals, I send this in the hope of aiding some one who is looking for better things. That Christian Science will cure, when both medicine and surgery have failed, I know to be true. After having tried medicine for a number of years, as a last resort I submitted, with the assurances of a radical cure, to an operation, only to find on returning to work that I was no better than before. I became very much discouraged, as I imagined I had exhausted all means of help.

About this time I received a visit from an uncle who had been healed through Christian Science some time before. He asked me if I would object to trying it. I said no, but that I did not have much faith, as what he told me it would do seemed too good to be true. In about a month after he left, I received a copy of Science and Health and a Bible. I had never expected to own a Bible. I had been unable to understand it or become interested in it.

The night I received the books, feeling unusually sorrowful and despondent, I opened Science and Health from curiosity, and read. Something seemed to comfort me, and I can truly say that never since has its reading failed to help. I went to bed and slept better than I had for a long time. I read the book regularly and soon was sleeping soundly every night. In about one month, after two days of unusual pain, which did not discourage me, my trouble disappeared, and I have been free from it ever since, and have been able to work harder and with less fatigue than ever before seemed possible to me. While I am indeed thankful for the physical benefits, they seem very slight compared to the joy, hope, and peace which become ours as we learn to apply the rules of our text-book in our daily lives; and how beautifully they illumine the Scriptures! Born in a religion which held before me the fear of eternal punishment, I early began to doubt and despair of finding any satisfaction in religion. It was indeed a cup of water in Christ's name, when our wonderful text-book was placed in my hands, for it has brought me a peace and happiness which I had not thought possible in this life.

Words are inadequate to express my thankfulness for our Leader's work. I feel that I can best express it by striving to follow in the way she has pointed out, and in trying to realize the privilege we have of adding to the great wave of gratitude which is expressed by those who have found that of which Jesus spoke, when he said, "My peace I give unto you." —Joseph Wl. Fitch, Cranmoor, Wis.
