I desire to express in some small measure my ever-increasing...
I desire to express in some small measure my ever-increasing sense of gratitude for the blessings which Christian Science has shed upon my earthly path, in bringing me out of darkness into Truth's eternal day, enabling me to understand the Bible and how to divide the words of Truth aright. When I realize for a moment what Christian Science really is, what it has done, and will yet accomplish, my sense of gratitude is unspeakable. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy so illumines the Scripture, and so reveals the ever-present Christ, the Comforter, that the journey seems less toilsome. Divine Love lightens our burdens. For even the small degree of understanding that I have gained of God and Christ, of heaven, harmony, and immortality, through Christian Science, I am profoundly grateful both to God and to our beloved Leader, who has, through the heroism of moral courage divinely bestowed and divinely directed, again given to the world-weary, sin-sick sense the blessed Gospel of peace. As the science of numbers proves the rule in primary arithmetic as certainly as in algebra or a problem in Euclid, even so small demonstrations prove the rule of Scientific healing through Mind to be the rule given by Christ Jesus.
In the summer of 1905 I met with a very severe sprain. From my medical experience I felt that the tendons were ruptured, but I instantly declared the truth, and soon gained possession of myself, though I had to hold to the railing for support. A sense of faintness was soon overcome, and as it was necessary for me to be in the city at a certain time, I let go the support, realizing that I could walk in the power of Spirit. I walked two blocks to the elevated station; climbed the long stairs, made my appointment on time, and went home, no one knowing of the accident. I refused to examine the foot for several days. The pain was all destroyed in the first twelve hours and the swelling soon disappeared. I never limped, or favored the foot, but walked with a strong, firm step, making my visits each day. With my knowledge of materia medica and so-called physical law, I knew how different would have been my experience in the old thought.
For this speedy and almost painless deliverance from the asserted laws of materiality, and this peaceful and harmonious realization of the spiritual, I am most profoundly thankful.
