In January, 1898, I fell on an icy pavement in Omaha, Neb., severely injuring my right ankle. I was assisted home by two passers-by. My friends were much alarmed. I thought they were needlessly troubled, but at the end of thirty-six hours, after consulting with a Christian Science practitioner, we thought best to accede to their wishes and call a surgeon who was considered the best in the city. He examined my foot and stated that the injuries were severe. It was thought that the bandaging would prove a terrible ordeal, but I received Christian Science treatment and can say that I did not experience any pain. The doctor gave me no medicine of any kind and seemed much surprised at what he thought my "grit." He said it would be a long time before I could use my foot, and that it would never be as strong as before, but Christian Science treatment proved him to be mistaken. I returned to my home two weeks later, walking with crutches. These were soon discarded and in a short time my ankle became perfectly well and strong. I have had no difficulty in using it in walking or any other way. During the healing I had only two attacks of pain, and these were quickly overcome through Christian Science.
Mrs. Villa Mills Grant, Charleston, S. C.
With Paul I can say, "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." It has been proven to me in Christian Science that there are no incurable or hereditary diseases. Two members of my family had passed on with lung trouble under materia medica, and about three years ago this form of disease came into my experience; but I turned to Christian Science for help, and although for a time the road seemed long and dark, the light was made manifest and the trouble suddenly vanished into its native nothingness. I was brought to see that as long as we hold to thoughts which are unlike God, good, do we manifest correspondingly erroneous physical conditions. Mrs. Eddy tells us, "The true consciousness is the true health" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 298). For the help which I have received in Christian Science and for the many blessings which this understanding brings, I can only pay my debt of gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy by living the life of a true Christian Scientist.—May C. Groffman, Chicago, Ill.
