The Communion
"Each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love" (Science and Health, p. 66).
With the swift flight of time, another Communion season has come, bringing a great spiritual uplifting which will go on with us, and make the year more fruitful than any we have known. The dear assurance of divine Love, given by Christ Jesus, "Lo, I am with you alway," speaks to us in every hour of need and is the reason for our deepest joy; and although we have learned in Christian Science that the Christ, Truth, is a perpetual presence, it by no means follows that we have outgrown the need of special communion.
It is an hour for gratitude as well as for joy, when we remember that through the ministry of Christian Science divine Love came to us in our deepest woe, healed us, and revealed to us the living, ever-present Christ; that it is feeding us daily with the bread which "giveth life unto the world." It is meet, too, that we renewedly consecrate ourselves to our great Cause, and to all its activities, so that the world may the better understand with each suceeding year the Christ-teaching and its healing, uplifting influence. The Saviour's words, "This do in remembrance of me," take on a higher meaning when we devoulty recall that, at such awful cost, he proved, for all time, the truth which he revealed to mankind, the truth which is the foundation of Christian Science. Although the full import of his teaching was early lost to a needy world, not a single idea is missing to-day, and as we individually understand and obey, we shall attain to the blessedness and peace of true, spiritual communion. As we do this, we shall better understand and appreciate the work of our revered Leader, and be better prepared to carry it onward to its all-embracing end,—the salvation of all mankind from sin, disease, and death.
