I was much impressed in reading a recent testimonial of the practical benefits the managing editor of a daily paper had received in applying his understanding of Christian Science to his work. It had become so illumined that it attracted commendation when no suspicion was entertained of the real power behind his pen. I wish to add that I am making an earnest effort to utilize the same line of thought in the mechanical department of two newspapers where I am employed as foreman of the printers. We print both a morning and an evening paper that are separate and distinct, and I have charge of the working force of both. This being a thoroughly modern Western city, our newspapers are wide-awake and progressive, and the mechanical details require the most careful watching, and painstaking work to secure the required result. All these details must be figured nicely, as mails have to be made promptly and extra editions furnished on the shortest possible notice, as competition is very keen, and it rests with the foreman to see that his men are prepared at any moment for almost any emergency. With the little understanding I have acquired of Christian Science I have been enabled to improve the mechanical system and adjust its capacity to a nicety so that there is very little unnecessary hurry or bustle, and every man handles his work without friction. I am daily learning more how to carry this understanding into every detail of my work, and as it grows clearer the work becomes easier. I find the Golden Rule of great practical benefit in dealing with the men, not only in my own department but in every other part of the office, and in my home life as well. Where a prejudice formerly existed through careless indifference toward Christian Science, I find the editors now exhibit a kindly interest in the printing of any articles that may be furnished, and the interest is increasing slowly but surely, both on the part of the men and of the management.

I was led to accept Christian Science by a friend who came to the office to work. For nearly forty years I was a semi-invalid, the thought of a torpid liver and its chronic accompaniments holding me in a vise-like grip. This grew into catarrh of the stomach in its most violent form, with chronic constipation. As a last material resort I had swallowed a stomach tube almost daily for months, with some slight benefits of a temporary nature, but there was nothing permanent looked for, and the constipation was considered hopeless by physicians. My work worried me and I was almost a nervous wreck, and as I then viewed it I seemed to exist solely by my will-power.

My friend suggested that I read Science and Health. In a few days I asked him to help me with treatments, which he did, and I was entirely healed. The light came to me most beautifully and it is growing, and growing daily. I was brought up in the orthodox faith, but when sickness and troubles came, and I was plunged into the very depths of despair and turned to my God, there seemed little or no response. Although I could not comprehend this, I never lost faith, and felt that somehow and in some way God would make it all right. The answer to those prayers of anguish is now being demonstrated daily, not only in the physical well-being of myself and family, but in the conduct of my business affairs, where I am enabled to do justice both to employer and employe, and know that divine Love governs and is All and in all. With this understanding the most difficult problems are quickly solved, and my work is no longer a burden but a pleasure, and capacity for it has greatly increased. But more wonderful still is the joy that is found in helping others, knowing that the more we give the more we receive, that there is absolutely no limit to this fountain of love.
