As an expression of my deep gratitude I should like to say what Christian Science has done for me. I first heard of it six months ago, from a friend, who, like myself, was very much in need of repairs. Seeing the effect it had on him convinced me that it was true. Selfishness was my first reason for seeking its aid. I wanted to be rid of my many ailments. Now I understand that the mental and moral effects of Christian Science are of far more consequence.
After a life spent in a disappointing struggle with what to me seemed adverse circumstances, I have now found a contented and happy state of mind, such as never came my way before. My gratitude is due to the practitioner who took me in hand, for his patience and forbearance. Many things were told me which at first were very hard to believe; but I am bound to confess that everything has been satisfactorily proved since.
During the last six months I have been completely healed of a rather serious case of hernia. Palpitation of the heart, which had troubled me for more than twenty years, is quite gone. Acute rheumatism in the shoulder has disappeared. Catarrh of the throat and nostrils, which sometimes lasted all the winter, has not troubled me this year. My sight was very indifferent; for the last sixteen years I have had to use glasses, gradually increasing their strength. Now I can read newspaper type with ease, and I have not used my glasses at all for more than two months. Some other troubles, Chronic gout among the number, are disappearing so rapidly that I no longer fear them or believe in their reality. I do not know of any power save my gratitude to God and to Christian Science which could make me give a testimony in public, for my nervousness was so great that I had never been able to speak at a public meeting.
