About five years ago I had three teeth filled by the dentist, two on the left side of my mouth and one on the right side. On the left side the teeth were very close together and the decay was between the teeth and up in the roots under the gum, so that the dentist had to cut away much of the teeth in order to get at the roots, which made a very large cavity. The one on the right side was very much decayed and so loose in the gum that the dentist refused to fill it; and touching it with his instrument, said, "It is waste of time and money to fill such a tooth as that, let me take it out," but I insisted on having it filled and keeping it as long as it would stay. The enamel on two of my front teeth had also decayed about a sixteenth of an inch below the gum, so that the dentist advised me to have them filled too, but it was not convenient at that time.
In about a year, may be not so long, the filling came out of the teeth on the left side of the gum, and they ulcerated and were at times very painful. I was able to overcome the pain somewhat, so that I did not lose much sleep. I think this lasted about a week, and the swelling seemed to increase so that I was not able to close my mouth; that is, I could not bring my teeth together. It had become so painful that I stopped my work and went to my room to try to realize the truth so as to destroy the sense of suffering. In my effort to become conscious of the truth that heals, I received a wonderful sense of the non-existence of error, the nothingness of everything but God and His idea (I wish I could express that sense, but I have no words), and instantly the swelling went down like a blister pricked with a pin, the pain left, and I went about my work free from the pain and swelling.
It also came to me that the cavity was a false sense which Truth would cast out and give me the true sense, which is perfection. I did not go to the dentist. I don't know why. I did not then think my teeth would be filled as they have been. In about two or three weeks. when my tongue touched the cavity on the left side it seemed to be smaller, and as the days passed it continued to get smaller. The thought came to me, Is it possible I am having my teeth filled by the realization of the power of Truth over error? Shortly, I had occasion to go to the dentist's office, which reminded me of the fact that the cavity was getting less, and I called his attention to it. He examined it and said, "I see the new bone that has formed. Your tooth is being filled." The enamel also began to grow on my front teeth. The tooth on the right side of my mouth tightened in the gum. It was cut away so that the space between it and the tooth next to it was almost large enough to hold another tooth. This tooth was filled up in the root under the gum, also below the gum. I do not know what became of that which was below the gum, but the filling that was under the gum came out and stuck between the gum and the tooth. I paid very little attention to it. One day I was eating something, and found a hard substance in my mouth. I put it aside without noticing it. Some days after, I missed the filling that was between the gum and the tooth, and found no cavity. I took a small mirror and examined my tooth and found it whole, filled with new bone, and the space between it and the tooth next to it much less. It is now almost filled in with a whole solid tooth. The new growth actually pushed the filling out. I have had no trouble with my teeth since.—S. J. K., Philadelphia, Pa.
