Some months ago an article entitled, "Shall Christian Scientists be Persecuted?" or a similar heading, appeared in the Express. As it was from the pen of a member of the Christian church, and may be regarded as somewhat prejudiced, I have thought it may not be out of place to have a few lines from an orthodox standpoint. I am a member of one of the leading orthodox churches, and have been for nearly forty years, but believe that any one who professes to be a true follower of Christ, under whatever name, should be tolerant, and so love his fellow-men, of whatever creed or sect, as to be able to tell the truth about them, and in the absence of the facts from which to make his statements, hold his peace.

No one could be more prejudiced against Christian Science than the writer until within the past few months. By mere accident a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the Founder of the Christian Science Church, fell into my hands. I decided to read it for the purpose of learning what the teachings of Christian Science really were. I read it carefully and prayerfully. I then attended their meetings at the different churches in the city. The result was that I came to the conclusion that my prejudices against that church were founded wholly upon misrepresentations and misquotations.

At the first Wednesday night meeting I attended at one of the churches, which corresponds to the prayer meeting of the other churches, I found between two and three hundred persons present, a larger number than I have seen present at a similar meeting in any other church in the city. except on some special occasion, and, moreover, the weeknight meetings were much larger in proportion to the Sunday attendance than at any other church.
