For a number of years I was a slave to the demon of liquor, but Christian Science has made me a free man; "Love and Truth make free" (Science and Health, p. 227).

I have been a commercial traveler for the past twenty years, and when first I started on the road I thought business could not be done successfully without treating my customers and drinking with them, and the habit grew on me until I became a wreck. The firm I represented were so uniformly kind and considerate of me, although I often abused their confidence, that at last I asked them how they had been able to put up with my conduct.

I was told that they were trying to follow the teachings of Science and Health, and but for Christian Science I should have been dismissed long before this. They also advised me to seek help from a practitioner.
