I am very grateful for the benefit I have derived from...

I am very grateful for the benefit I have derived from the understanding of Christian Science. It is now almost two years since I first set foot in this beautiful home of God's children, and I must say that although I did not at the time believe in the Bible and had no faith in Deity (for I had never had the right concept of God) yet I was deeply impressed with the first service I attended, and went away feeling that this was truly the gospel of love and good-fellowship I had so often heard about. From that day a strong desire to know all that this Gospel of Love teaches and to benefit by the understanding derived from its teachings impelled me, and I must say that I have been amply repaid and have never regretted the step taken.

I think it must have been due somewhat to my earnest desire to know the truth, that I have been able to help myself by its application almost from the very beginning. The tobacco habit, which I had for twenty-five years and against which I had struggled many a time, but without success, left me at once and all desire for it is gone, also the desire for whiskey became a thing of the past. The mental and spiritual uplifting were, however, the grandest of all demonstrations. I have learned to love the Bible and to look for Truth in that blessed book, and I have reached a new understanding of it by the aid of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I feel very grateful to her and also to my dear practitioner and other friends who have helped me to gain this understanding.

To me it is certainly the greatest privilege to be a Christian Scientist, even if I have yet but a limited knowledge of the truth and its application, but I have a strong and ever-growing desire to know more of it. It has not only been the means of bringing about a mental, moral, and physical change in me, but it has also been a great help in a business way as well, and I have had some beautiful demonstrations in that way. One thing for which I am most grateful is the overcoming of quick temper which caused me much trouble. With this error I had to struggle longer than with any other, but finally Truth conquered and I rejoice in the victory. My sight, which was also very bad and necessitated the use of glasses for almost five years, has also been restored, and I can now see to read the finest print without the aid of glasses. For this also I am grateful. We have had other demonstrations of truth in our family, one of which I will mention. My eldest daughter's left foot had turned at the ankle so that she walked on the outer side of her shoe. The trouble was caused by rheumatism, and although it had been manifest for over six months it was entirely cured in one week's treatment. My children ask for Science treatment for their ailments, and are helped at all times.
