Windows

Windows each, if our hearts be true,
Are we to the hearts about us;
Lighting the shades of their cold, gray world
Which were dreary and dark without us.

Windows are we, if each doth live
The life which God ordains us;
His imaged likeness, shining forth,
Is the light which alone sustains us.

Windows are we, if we but love,
Like the Christ who goes before us:
Kind, compassionate, strong and pure
Is the love that he implores us.

Windows, if Truth and Life and Love
Ever are shining through us;
Lighted of good, our lives glow bright,
And the darkened of earth come to us.
