My testimony is not a story of physical healing
My testimony is not a story of physical healing. I have found infinitely more than that. I bring a joyous greeting to all dear sufferers who are seeking for the right way out of darkness, sorrow, and pain. It is a joyous greeting, for I know that the grand message of eternal Love is for every heart, and to those weary of struggle and suffering there is a deep peace to be found and a joy so bright as to dispel all mortal discord and mourning.
I came to Science not for healing but in pursuit of the truth, for which I had longed from childhood. I searched for it in the creeds of my church, but found it not. I searched for it in the writings of worldly thinkers, I studied mental philosophy, until I was tired of it all, and though young I did not enjoy my life. It seemed as though a shadow were cast upon everything. Then all kinds of trouble came to me till at last life seemed to be a dreary wilderness, full of questions to which there were no answers.
In a time of great distress, Christian Science was brought to me through the healing of my mother. I read the textbook with a sort of greed, hoping to grasp the whole of it in one mighty effort, but I had to learn the way of patience. At last the impetuous longing was satisfied, and now, amidst my daily work, I can truly repeat the words of our dear Leader: "Over and above it all are eternal sunshine and joy unspeakable" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 279).
