Hungering after Righteousness

Jesus said, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." In these words I find a fitting description of my growth in Christian Science, and the thought has come to me, How can we hunger after righteousness, unless we feel a sense of lack,—lack of goodness? If we are filled with self-righteousness, and if we compare our lives with the lives of other people, we are apt to think we are quite good enough; but in the study of Christian Science we naturally begin to compare our lives with the Christ-life, and then we behold the lack, so that a sense of unworthiness and humility comes to us. We recognize that as mortals we are nothing, but finally comes the glorious thought of our true life hid with Christ in God. Then it is that we hunger and thirst for this life, this righteousness, which hitherto we did not know, and we press on, certain that we shall be satisfied, when we awake, in His likeness.
