The True Freedom

We want to preserve freedom of Church and State. This must be maintained for the success of any community, and this is especially to be considered in our dependencies. It is necessary everywhere, whether in providence or in far off Manila. We need to insist upon absolute liberty of conscience. Let us be ever ready for new witnesses. Be ready to listen to any new prophet, if he be a Christian, reasoning man, that if our denomination may be improved we may give it the improvement. There are three statues on the Atlantic coast that symbolize protection to our cherished religious interests. They are the statue of Liberty in New York harbor, the statue of Faith at Plymouth, and the statue of Roger Williams. Roger Williams was great because he believed in liberty for faith and had faith in liberty. President Faunce. Of Brown University.
