Like many others, I came to truth loaded down with errors of many years' standing. I was sentenced soon to pass away with nervous prosthation and its attendant horrors, and in a frame of mind in which I saw no chance of escape. After seventeen years during which I gradually grew worse, despair had taken the place of hopefulness, and I had decided to close up my business affairs for the end.

Although raised by Christian parents I had drifted away from the church, and was at the time an infidel.

I had just returned home from a summer spent in the high mountains of California and Nevada, worse than when I left, when a friend asked me why I did not try Christian Science. He could not tell what it was but had heard of some wonderful cures by it, and from what he told me I decided to try it.
