I did not know that man's God-given right was to destroy...
I did not know that man's God-given right was to destroy every evil thought that presented itself to his consciousness, therefore these thoughts led me wherever they would while I gave them power to rule over me. Selfishness, ambition, envy, hatred, self-righteousness, lust, deceit, the fruits of which were unhappiness, sickness, financial distress, and other inharmonies, filled my experiences up to the time I was led to take treatment of a Christian Scientist. My recovery was slow, as I was loath to part from the error that obscured the light of understanding. The loving counsel and patience manifested by my healer, demonstrated to me that it was something beside a material reward for which he labored. Love was not hasty to deliver me. I needed to work. But for every effort in the right direction abundant reward came.
We cannot impart happiness to others until our hearts overflow with God's love, and as we drink in the glorious truths of the Bible and strive for the Mind which Jesus manifested, we begin to grow in usefulness to our fellowmen; to have the understanding that brings health to the sick, peace to aching hearts, freedom to those imprisoned by their false beliefs, thereby serving God as Jesus commanded us to do.
Only as we are able to "put off the old man with his deeds" can we appreciate in any degree the sublime character of our devoted Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and her unselfish life-work for the benefit of all mankind. As we receive the blessings of God, our hearts cannot help going out to her who has shown us by her pure life the way to harmony.
